  1. Hi your article brought back memories of fishing the annual fishing competition from Porthallow on board a boat run by a chap called Bruce Vickers. Fantastic fishing all around, Bruce spent most of his time fishing the Manacles for Bass comercially, last I heard of him he had moved to Greece. However back to the fishing glad to say my name appears on the heaviest fish cup once if not twice?.
Do you know if the competition is still run and if any boats do charter on the day, Would be well worth the trip down just to get a pint in Five Pichards and a Hog Roast on the beach again

  2. great article, could you please elaborate on the ball bullet on a flowing trace rig. by pure chance i am taking the missus and our son for a week on the hayle beach on 19th sep 09 right on the mouth of the estuary there. been my ambition to catch a bass for years now and feel this could be the right spot. have basic spinning gear and a flattie beach rod but never fished surf before so any tips would be great. also i am becoming more interested in trying kayak fishing and am hungry for as much info as possible before i opt for the right kayak (so many to choose from) also if you know of any good shops to buy live sand eels in cornwall i would be grateful. spinning off pendeen and sennen has yielded me small pollack and mackerel but havent tried float fishing off the rocks yet. there always seems to be a curious seal popping its head up whenever i settle for a spot on the rocks around there.
will be spending a week so time is limited but any tips on locations and techniques would really be appreciated, its along drive from hull and a bass would be awesome and prove to the missus that they do exist and arent a made up excuse for solitary r&r
    regards
    phil in hull
