Either use the peeler crab whole or in half, remove the shell and legs and thread the body onto the hook shaft. Get some bait elastic or elastic bands and start to wind the elastic tightly around the peeler crab meat. Tying it off so it won’t unwind when you finish.

Peeler crab can be collected from bare rocks at a low tide. They are often buried in the soft mud under rocks. Be carful when looking for peelers because there is often metal and glass in the mud.

Peeler crab make good bait for Smooth hound, Flatties, Cod, bass, Wrasse and almost anything in the sea!

Peelers can be frozen for storage, but seem to be better fresh. They can be bought from bait shops but often cost good money.

Peeler crab if my memory serves are just crabs shedding thier shell, ready to grow. This time is also often when crabs breed.
