Shock leader length

Published on August 14, 2025 with No Comments

A quick post to answer a simple but often asked beach casting question regarding how much shock leader and what strength leader to use.

I allways as a minium; times the weight in ounces by 10 hence:-

6oz sinker = 60lb shock leader.

I would always put 5 - 7 turns on the spool and run the leader about one and a half times the length of your rod.
