A TRIP TO THE PIER - A Guest Post!

Another guest angler - made me laugh!

If it’s been hard all day at work, there is nothing I enjoy more
than sitting on a bench at the end of the pier with the birds all
around me and getting my tackle out. It doesn’t matter how much
tackle you have, there’s no better way for a man to relieve his
stress and get close to nature than by getting it out on a nice day.

I’ve noticed some blokes with far more tackle than me; in fact one
chap has a trolley he pushes in front of him to carry his on!
Sometimes this makes me a bit envious but generally I’m happy with
the small amount of tackle I’ve got because I can get it out easily
as soon as I feel the urge but put it away quickly when the weather
turns nasty. Also I can comfortably hold mine in one hand when I’m
walking along the pier or going back to the car park.

Another important thing to think about is what to put on the end of
your tackle. Some people like to use pieces of food or raw fish with
the hope that they will get a nibble. This can go off quite quickly
and make your tackle and your fingers a bit whiffy, especially on a
hot day. There is nothing more embarrassing than your tackle
attracting a swarm of bluebottles in public! Personally I prefer to
use decorated rubber or shiny metal objects on the end of mine to help
it show up better and make it more attractive.

If you are lucky enough to attract something tasty with your tackle
and you want to take it home you’ll need to know what to do with it.
First you will have to hit it on the head with something such as a
small rounders bat to stop it wriggling about so you can get your
tackle out of its mouth. On your way home you might want to call in
the pub for a pint where you can show it off to your mates. Then when
you have got it home it will probably need a wash before you stuff it
and have it for supper with a nice bottle of wine.

Happy fishing!
