Hayle is located in St Ives bay and is the town located near the mouth of the river HAYLE.
There are mud flats at low tide with jetties, piers and banks to fish from. The target species are Mullet, flatties and Bass. I have heard of bream being caught in some of the pools in the estuary.
There are very strong tides here so be careful, but these tidal flows seem to be where the bass hunt.
If you follow the water out to sea the are changes. Mud flats become golden, clean sand. This area is a classic surf beach. Bass, Flatties and Rays are caught from here as well as other species including Dog fish. The sand as I have said is clean so think about where to fish for best results, look for gullies!!.
Parking is plentiful in the area.
Fishing becomes restricted in the summer with holiday makers all over the beaches and surrounding area.

i fish the hayle area almost every year and fish at the head of the hayle estuary, also i wade in the surf usually spinning a variety of lures just beyond the breakers they are quite far out so heavier gear is advisable, it is a really beautiful spot, miles of clean beach and world class surf.
The TWO problems i have found are 1. using bait on the bottom at the head of the estuary (when the tide is flooding or ebbing,and the schools of bass and mullet move in) seems to attract a million crabs to my juicy lugs. 2.there are lots and lots of kite surfers and canoists in and out of the estuary and quite a few hundred yards beyond so casting is fraught, and i can’t help but think that the swooping kites and surfboards spook any game fish.
still it is well worth the trip, and only a couple of miles west of st. ives are spectacular and deserted coves and cliffs if you are prepared to follow the off road tracks down to the farms on the coast. I have never been refused access or a parking spot by the locals, and you don’t need a 4×4 i found plenty of coves in my corsa!

There are certainly issues with the mark. Try and head there on really early tides to miss the other water users.

Im coming to hayle in may and plan on some early morning sea fishing. I have stayed there every year for 10 years but have never fished…I’m a carp angler but want to try sea angling, I will do some before i get to hayle but is there anywhere there that offers tutorials in sea fishing for the beginner..?
