Ocean Malibu two ready for sea trials

My brother has brought his Ocean Malibu Two kayak down to me in Cornwall for the first sea trails! He has not yet got to the sea with this kayak, and he and I are looking forward to tomorrow when we will take his Ocean kayak to the water for the first time. The width if this kayak is huge so it should be very stable in the water.

The weather is looking good with a 3 foot swell predicted which will enable us to test it out well. We plan on doing open water tests and surf tests and with my RTM Disco out at the same time we will be able to give you a great comparison after this sea test.

We will be checking it for stability, hull slap, tracking, and general fishability (my new word) Looking at the hull design of the Ocean Malibu Two I am sure it will track well as it has a well defined keel moulded into the design. The scupper holes are scalloped so it should draw water off the deck. I also think it might be quite a wet Kayak as the free board is not that high, but we will see.

  1. Have a look at my Disco + in the picture above. Thats a narrow Kayak!!

I look forward to hearing more from you in the future!

  2. If the width of that kayak is huge, I shudder to think what a “small” one would look like. I will be back later to see if you are still around.
