Some fishing Funnies here

What is a leader or tipit

Generally the term is for fly fishing where you use a heavy castable line, where the leader is a length of mono filament leading to the fly.

The length of the leader is normally 4ft+ depending on the conditions and your ability. The longer the better generally.

A tipit is where you use a braided leader which gets lighter towards the end finishing in a short length of mono filament - the tipit.

Breaking strength of a leader or tipit depends on the size of the fish, the location and the type of angling. Try to fish as light as possible without loosing to much end tackle.

Cod baits

Make you baits for Cod fishing very large.

Fishing 7 or 8 fat lugworm tipped with a chunk of squid can improve results. I put a stop knot on the hook snood, then a bead, then a flat washer ie a thin sequin. I thread the worm on then compress it with the knot and sequin.

Rember big baits = big scent = big COD!

Tip for flattie fishing (Flounder & Plaice)

I find that I get more sucess fishing for flatties (flounder and plaice) using a weight that slowly moves on the sea bed. I often use a ball bullet or light watch lead.
My theory is it throws up mud and sand attractiong the fish!

Using plenty of attractor beads and spoons, even a glow stick often improves the catch rate.
