Blueys are shit! I have been trying blueys but why bother when fresh / frozen Mackerel is local and so easy to get and also so good compared to blueys!! The quality of the fish has been questionable, soft and not firm. This may be due to the storage before I got them. Any way I am going to stick to good old Mackerel.

blueys are soft probably due to oil content in them & do need tying on .in my experience on boat recently they were far superior to mackeral but obviously they didnt need casting hits were instant but we were drifting over wreck once then winding in repositioning then dropping fresh bait down .also found as day went on they became softer .top seller here but i do think they have their limitations when casting

hi i was using silver shrimp baited with bluey initially getting lots of small stuff . changed to a single boom rig on a 5/0 baitholder strip got a conger and some better whiting pollock & of course pouting .must say you were spot o0n picked up some decent pollock on a pirk tipped with bluey . for casting yes you would need elastic aned i would have bait clipped down rig although down here my fave rig is a simple runner rig but i dont know how much confidence i would have whacking a bluey out like that .blueys are well worth a try but treat them as you would frozen sandeel ie wrapped up & cool i feel that sunlight really accellerates the softening effect on them good luck hope this helps
