There are some where the main tube has not got a bottom, so if not capped your kayak will fill with water when you are sea fishing. This problem can be overcome with the use of a plastic end cap being glued to the bottom and extra strength can be achieved using a metal pin through the cap and tube, riveting the cap in place and it gives something for the rod to rest on.
