Attaching my GPS to my Fishing Kayak

Now I have had my GPS for a while now I though it was about time that I attached it to the Kayak, ready for some early Bass and Pollock Fishing.

I have been considering a number of locations for the GPS on my RTM Disco but finally I decided the best place for it was just past my feet on the bulkhead that faces you. One reason for this is its well out of the way, yet within reach, and more importantly its within the outer circumference of the Kayak meaning if the Kayak falls over (in the surf) the GPS will remain protected.

I took a few shots while I fitted the base plate because when I was looking for similar pointers I found it hard to find any.

Firstly I bought some M4 Nylocks, screw head countersunk bolts and washers as well as some marine grade sealant.

I tried a few locations, then when happy I marked the bulk head of the Kayak with a felt tip pen through the screw holes of the base plate.

I drilled the holes using a bit fractionally smaller that the bolts and the drill on a slow speed so as not to melt the plastic.

I loaded the holes with sealant, positioned the foot plate and put the bolts in place. The bolts had to be screwed in as they were cutting into the drilled holes to make a better seal.

The washers went on and everything was in turn tightened securing the foot plate to the bulk head.

I then double checked and now I am ready to go Bass fishing on my Kayak
