Gold Fishing Award

We are now headlong into a new year and I thought it was about time to reflect and praise the best of the best for the hard work and achievements they have made, helping us become better more productive sea anglers. So in no particular order:

Sea Fishing AwardBest Brand – Daiwa Fishing Tackle

Daiwa Sea FishingWhere do I start to write about this company. In 1955 they produced their first fishing reel. Since then Daiwa has grown and grown. They have focused on innovation, design and quality making fishing more enjoyable for us. Not only do they commit to this but also they fund and support events, organisations and initiatSealine Slosh Multipliersives that provide enjoyment and re-investment into our sport. Here is a reminder of the quality sea fishing tackle they produce.

SLOSH – A great tough and serviceable reel, the Daiwa Sea Line Slosh Multiplier. Its tough and will last for your lifetime if looked after correctly. It can be used as a small boat reel if needed and it wont disappoint, uptiding for Cod and Ray or beach casting for summer Bass. Every angler should have one in their tackle box, thank you Daiwa!

Sea Fishing Award  Best New Product – Ocean Kayak Tetra 10 Angler

Kayak fishing is huge and for a good reason, it will help you to catch more fish. You are able to get to those hidden gems.

Ocean have produced some of the best sit in top Kayaks. This new model looks stable and fast. A large covered front compartment and rear well. The seating looks supportive and very comfortable, especially for the larger paddlers amongst you. This model has adjustable foot rest which will assist you while paddling.

All in all this looks a well developed and designed piece of kit. You can get it in the UK from Brighton Canoes, who really deserve a mention here for their service and product range. They also offer fantastic advice and customer support.

Sea Fishing Award  Best Quality – Duo Lures

Fishing Lures ReviewI have to mention these guys. Duo are moving forward bringing out new products on what seems like a daily basis. There products catch fish, big fish! The build quality is superb and the company are great. I have had a lot of dealings with them recently and they have been superb, matched with a great sense of humor. I have more DUO stickers than I know what to do with.

I have started a review of Duo lures over here. I am still waiting for the second half of the review, the field test and catch results. I could rush it through but I want to do a good quality product review.

Sea Fishing Award  Best Innovation – Power Isome ragworm imitations

Power IsomeNow this little imitation looks awesome. Everyone needs a pack of these in there tackle box to hook into more fish. When lure fishing is hard, a realistic and scented lure like this can just make the difference and coax that 10lb bass out of hiding!

I have heard some fab reports about these little critters, my Twitter feed went mad from people shouting about them a few weeks ago. I need to get a couple of packs, they will be good for shore fishing, boat fishing and Kayak fishing. I reckon they will catch Pollock, Bass, Whiting, Mackerel, Flounder, You name it! They can also be cut down for different applications. Reading the site success has been had by hooking these lures onto a mepps while spinning for Mullet.

This really good web site called Art of Fishing stocks them.

Sea Fishing Award  Best Web Site – Fishing Tackle UK

Fishing Tackle ReviewSome might think I am mad and they would be right! However I think it is important to respect those who are doing something well and the website Fishing Tackle UK is doing a great job of reviewing new and innovative fishing tackle. They state that they are 100% independent which is important to get quality information.

The site covers all aspects of fishing tackle, having an index for Sea, Carp, Coarse and Fly tackle reviews. The reviews read as fair and well balanced, packed full of images and useful text about each itme of tackle they review.

Navigating the site is simple with a great user interface. I reckon it is one to watch over 2012. Thank you and good luck!

What would you add?

So there we have it, my awards are given. Please feel free to add other brands/products/people/services in the comments section below, share this with friends on face book and twitter…

  1. I recently read a scientific report on air pressure and the effect it has on fishing.I suspect it is only relevant to shallow waters. When a cold spell is on the way,the fish sense it and start to feed. This is because high pressure is related to clear skys, which is probably why the saying”Wind from the east, fishing is least”applies. In winter easterlies bring cold weather,in summer clear skies, which is usually a band of high pressure.
Apparently, the metabalism of fish slows down with high pressure, which makes them feed less.I cant see this effecting deepwater fishing,as the increased air pressure will be felt a lot less a few atmospheres down.
The article stated that Pike in freshwater are the first to react to incoming high pressure, and they start to feed in anticipation.
It is certainly food for thought,I personally intend to keep it in mind, because it will probably be a factor in which bait to use,and what to expect.
    Tight Lines.
