Kayak Hatches

First thing to remember is to make sure your Kayak hatch is secure before you go on the water.

Secondly they can be adapted for use as storage areas, both dry and wet (for fishing bait). The shape and design of hatch depends largely on the make and model of Kayak you have, however most are circular in shape.

If you want to add a custom hatch it must be done correctly, ensuring that the strength is kept in the area the hatch is added and it’s a watertight finish. If you are at all concerned about your tradesman ship then get somebody to install it for you.

Some of the best devices I have seen are a bait bucket that looks like a hatch, with a screw lid and a hatch that contains a bag. I have yet to source these in the UK, but I will keep you informed as and when I do.

The most simple storage you can add is a dry barrel. These are simply a barrel that you strap to the kayak. The advantage I see is that you do not effect any warranty and you can strip your kayak down if you just want a basic boat for surfing and fun boating.
