They day to day stuff will be posted in the main blog here Kayak fishing, but basic information will be posted on these content pages. With your help I intend to build a huge resource for tomorrows Kayak fishermen and woman. Kayak fishing is nothing new but with the current development of sit on tops kayaks it has really taken off.

Sea Kayak fishing

So what is sea kayak fishing? well by defination a Kayak is - An Inuit or Eskimo boat consisting of a light wooden frame covered with watertight skins except for a single or double opening in the center, and propelled by a double-bladed paddle or a lightweight canoe that is similar in design

Modern plastics and composits have now taken over from animal skins and wood, making a very durable, strong  water bourne craft. The production costs have reduced and recreational kayaks are now readily available and affordable.

Many kinds of fishing can be done from a kayak, including river, lake and sea. This blog is focusing on sea kayak fishing in the UK but ideas and tips will be gathered from around the world.

Fishing kayaks

The most common type of boat is the sit on top kayak. They are the most popular craft for fishing because they generally have a lot of deck space for storage and are easy to adapt into a specailist fishing device.  The more traditional sea kayak would be a covered boat, normally requiring a spray deck that seals the paddler into the boat. They are full of storage which is generally designed to be accesssed once the paddeling has been finished and the kayak is back on the shore.

Sit on top kayaks are generally more stable than the traditional kayaks because they were more traditionally a general recreational kayak, developed for all abilities. Because of thier stability and deck space people found them to be a suitable fishing platform and a hybrid of the pure recreational kayak and a traditional kayak was born.

The recreational kayak needed to be faster and track well so anglers could cover ground efficiently and be safe in small seas. There is now a whole range of kayaks designed for fishing and anglers are quickly improving and adding thier own equipment to thier taste.

Rigged fishing kayaks

This is all about “pimping your ride”. Developing your kayak from its basic features into a fishing machine that is suited to you and your own angling style and desires. It can be a basic modification or a compleate overhaul, the choice is yours. I will cover more here rigged kayaks.
