    Blueys the new fishing bait

    Indexed under Fishing Bait

    Blueys the new fishing bait.

Have you tried a Bluey yet?

    Did you catch more fish?

Don’t know what a Bluey is, well nor do I really.

They are being hailed as a new super bait to hit sea fishing. I understand they are an oily fish like a mackerel, but these fish have a greater oil content and therefore create a greater scent trail and attract more fish, allowing you to catch more fish.

I agree that good quality fresh sea bait is very important for most fish (some fish do like a smelly bait) but I am not convinced that a foreign species, even though its packed with oil is the answer.

I like my bait to come from the area I am fishing so they smell local, know what I mean! If you went to McDonalds but it smelt like a Burger King you would think something was up, wouldn’t you!!

Anyway, if you want to try this bait speak with your local tackle dealer and see if they have any in the freezer. If your catch rate goes up let me know.

I’m normally a bit of a sceptic about pre-packaged and frozen baits but blueys are great. I have yet to blank whilst using them. I have used them when float fishing, when fishing at Exmouth docks and short range fishing off a rock mark in Torbay.

So far I have caught Pollack, Wrasse, Gurnards, Mackerell and Mullet using it. Some people say it comes off the hook too easily. My tip would be to keep it in your cool bag until it is ready to go on the hook. It almost seems to work best when it is still frozen when you bait up; then the oils come out as it defrosts underwater.

    Good luck folks……….

    Oh yeah,

Forgot to say in my other comment. Try and get the branded Bait Box ones. The unbranded ones don’t seem to be so oily. I guess they probably weren’t frozen as quickly or something…….
